For most of two centuries the Steinbach Family has been producing fine wood products. Carrying on the tradition, Herr Christian Steinbach heads the family business with his daughter Karla.  Together they oversee product development and quality control at the factory.  The Steinbach family started in business in 1832 by purchasing a timber yard and operating a wood sawmill which was run by water power and then by steam power.  Since 1832, the Steinbach Factory has earned a worldwide reputation as the leading producer of collectible nutcrackers and smoking figures, which are created with exacting attention to detail from the finest European woods.  Highly skilled artisans, who have trained many years in the fine art of woodcarvings, painstakingly handcrafted Steinbach nutcrackers.  Steinbach has been proclaimed "King of Nutcracker's" from collectors around the world.

The History of "Nutcrackers"

According to German folklore, nutcrackers were given as keepsakes to bring good luck to your family and protect your home.  The legend says that a nutcracker represents power and strength and serves like a trusty watch dog guarding your family from evil spirits and danger.  A fierce protector, the nutcracker bares its teeth to the evil spirits and serves as the traditional messenger of good luck and goodwill.
